![]() short version: Gilles Poizat is a Lyon-based musician-composer. He sings, plays trumpet and electronics. His music walks a fine line between pop and singular experimentation. As a soloist, he developpes a rather peculiar kind of songwriting, playing with suspensions, randomness and improvisation. He also creates music for choreographic pieces and films. As a band member, he had lots of adventures since late 80s. Nowadays he plays with Stimmlippe (experimental vocal ensemble) and Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp (a 12-pieces post-punk orchestra). extended version: Gilles Poizat is a Lyon-based musician born in 1967. After classical trumpet studies, he moves to larger musical fields: improvised, experimental and traditional musics. In Conakry where he lived in 1993-1994, he was initiated to kora and Manding music in M'Bady Kouyaté's family, playing with Kéba Bobo Cissoko and creating Tamalalou with Ba Cissoko. Back to France, he co-created Le Philharmonique de la Roquette (music for theater and silent movies) and joined Le Grotorkèstre of Etienne Roche and Compagnie Musicabrass (experimental brassband). In 2001, he participates to the creation of Mazalda with whom we will play for 17 years, in the streets and on stage, and collaborate with raï singers Cheb Lakhdar and Sofiane Saidi. As a songwriter, he releases his first solo album, Micro-vertige et l'expérience du flottement, in 2011. Catherine Hershey invites him to make songs from her grandfather's poems, first in duo (Rev Galen) and later in solo and quartet (Horse in the house). He studies vocal technique with Mireille Antoine. In 2018, he co-creates the vocal sextuor StimmLippe, which is employed by Clément Edouard to create Seuil, an immersive piece for 6 voices, electronic and installation. He begins practicing modular synthetizers and produces a first record for trumpet and electronics (Champignon flamme) in 2021, followed by another adding vocals (trouvé perdu) in 2024. He composes for dance companies (Benjamin Coyle, Cécile Laloy, Melina Faka) and make arrangements for songwriters (Pollyanna, Arlt). Since 2020, he plays flugelhorn and sings with Orchestre Tout Puissant Marcel Duchamp. After passing a PhD in Ecology in 1993, he worked as a researcher at Station Biologique de la Tour du Valat in Camargue before focusing his activities to music since 2004. |
